DoC's Splash Ford Replacement contract involved the following scope:

  • Site Clearance
  • 1850m2 of cement stabilised and chip-sealed bridge approaches
  • 2800m3 of bulk fill for approaches
  • Existing culvert extensions and new piped culvert construction
  • Supply & Installation of Log rail barrier system
  • Construction of 11 Removable Precast Deck Units
  • Construction of 11m x 4 x 2m box culvert complete with wing walls and scour aprons and settlement slabs
  • Traffic Management

This project was undertaken within the Westland National Park, where specific requirements catering for both variable weather conditions, and risk management of flash flooding and rock-falls were put in place. An innovative approach combining both precast and in situ concrete elements resulted in these risks being minimised, as the physical works were accelerated by simple, yet very efficient methodologies.
